Bad news: China has reportedly approved three new varieties of GM soy for import. These are Intacta RR2 PRO, CV127 and Liberty Link. News links (in Portuguese):

Points to note:
*This is for imported soy from America, Brazil, and Argentina, that will go into feed and oil production in China. It will enter the food system in form of vegetable oil, meat and eggs mainly, and some dairy.
*China's government has bent to enormous lobbying pressure, ultimately from Monsanto but using the Brazilian and Argentine soy producing industry and the governments of those countries (public money is used to promote private business).

It remains to be seen whether China will honour its voiced intention to cater for increased non-GM demand within the country.
