ngin says: We never suggested that Prof Stott was a formal member of the IEA. The description we used in a recent ngin bulletin was that he was an "intimate" of the Institute of Economic Affairs. On the ngin website it says, Prof Stott seems "to be closely associated with the same IEA-connected right wing clique".
If Prof Stott tells us his own economic views are mildly left wing, we of course accept his assurance and assume he has had ample opportunity to make this clear to his associates.
The designation should now presumably read: Professor Philip Stott, mildly left wing contrarian, climate-change denier, pro-GM zealot and intimate of the Institute of Economic Affairs who have been running the UK end of the contrarian pro-GM, anti-organic smear campaign.

This relates to the NGIN posting on the GM conference that will be held at the University of London. NGIN said:
"The Conference Chair is none other than Professor Philip Stott, right wing contrarian, climate-change denier, pro-GM zealot and intimate of the Institute of Economic Affairs who have been running the UK end of the contrarian pro-GM, anti-organic smear campaign."
Stott denies (see message below) that he is right wing and says that he has no FORMAL connections with the IEA but presumably the other accusations are true and he has informal connection with the IEA.

Subject: A small correction
Dear NGIN,
I notice that I feature on your Web Site. I must point out that I am not right wing, but mildly left wing politically, having been a Labour voter and 'Guardian' reader all my life. I also have no formal connections with the IEA and I do not share their economic views. Of this they are well aware.
I don't mind being attacked on your Site, but please try to get your facts right.
Thank you.
Best wishes,
Professor Philip Stott
