New research and publications on biotech policy and developing countries

We are pleased to announce the launch of over 40 new publications on policy and regulatory issues relating to agricultural biotechnology and food security in developing countries.

These papers, articles and briefings have been published as part of a three-year research programme involving researchers from the Institute of Development Studies (IDS) (Brighton, UK), together with colleagues from the UK, China, India, Kenya and Zimbabwe.

Full details of the research programme, including summaries of individual projects, and complete listings of all the publications - together with short abstracts - are available from
www.ids.ac.uk/biotech.

Many of the publications are available to download, free of charge. The full lists of publications can be browsed in various pre-sorted categories, including "by country" and "by theme": (1) "Biotechnology policy processes in an international context"; (2) "Science, business and civil society in the biotechnology policy process"; (3) "Agricultural biotechnology and food security"; (4) "Democratising biotechnology: the challenges of participation"; (5) "Global governance: biosafety regulation and intellectual property rights"

**HIGHLIGHT**
"DEMOCRATISING BIOTECHNOLOGY: GENETICALLY MODIFIED CROPS IN DEVELOPING COUNTRIES"
A collection of 13 concise policy briefings on issues including science and the policy process, regulation, the relevance of GM crops for Africa, the role of the private sector, intellectual property rights and public participation. See
www.ids.ac.uk/ids/env/biotech/pubsBriefings.html.
