It's just been pointed out to us that the New Scientist piece we circulated was a 2004 article, which is why it appeared to contradict recent press reports about GM BSE-free cows. We apologise for the confusion.

We found the article on the GM-sympathetic Agbios website, which claims to provide "public policy, regulatory, and risk assessment expertise for products of biotechnology", listed under 'Latest Crop Biotech News'. Agbios dated the article as January 25, 2007.

The New Scientist article although out of date still raises some interesting points, such as the extreme unlikelihood of these cows ever ending up on anybody's dinner plate. But the most effective critique of the recent coverage of this story remains that of Glenn Ashton which can be found here: http://www.lobbywatch.org/archive2.asp?arcid=7443
