Big Tobacco and Biotech-funded Center for Consumer Freedom launches smear campaign

The restaurant chain Chipotle, which recently announced it was going non-GMO, is being attacked in a smear campaign organised by the corporate lobby group, the Center for Consumer Freedom. The campaign accuses Chipotle of lying about its non-GMO status and of serving fattening and unhealthy food.

The Center for Consumer Freedom is a front group run by Rick Berman's PR firm Berman & Co. for the restaurant, alcohol, tobacco and other industries. It was previously known as the Guest Choice Network (aka NannyCulture.com) which was launched in 1995 with $600,000 from tobacco giant, Philip Morris.

It has been funded by Monsanto and a foundation run by the GMO potato company Simplot.

Chipotle is being sued over its GMO-free claims but is fighting back.
