The genetically engineered bovine growth hormone (rBGH) developed by Monsanto is injected into cows to make them produce more milk. Although widely used in the United States, rBGH (also known as bovine somatropin – rBST, trade name Posilac) is banned in Europe because of concerns over its impact on human health and the health of cows. The GM hormone may increase cancer risks from milk consumption. Monsanto has influenced US product safety laws permitting the sale of unlabeled rBGH milk. It also stands accused of suppressing evidence about the damaging health effects that come from rBGH. (Time 3:01)
