1.TELL SPAIN YOU DON'T WANT GMOs
Dear friends,
In April, Spanish society mobilises against genetically modified organisms (GMOs). There will be various activities organised between the 13th and the 19th of April, with a big simultaneous demonstration on the 18th.
Spain is the only country in the EU that grows GMOs on a large scale, and the battle against these crops of the NGOs in our country comes up against many difficulties.
We would like to invite you to join our fight in two ways:
1. Organising small acts outside the Spanish embassy in your country on
Thursday 16th of April asking Spain to stop growing GMOs. Please find
attached the location of the Spanish embassy in your country.
2. Sending the following letter (or a similar one of your own) to the

2.TAKE ACTION: THE LETTER
Subject: Support for the mobilisation against GM crops in Spain
Dear Sir/Madam,
As you know, for more than ten years Spain has been the only country in the European Union that grows Genetically Modified crops on a large scale, being the only one that has invested in this unsustainable model of agriculture, despite fierce opposition from European society. In 2008, Spain was sown with 80.000 hectares of MON810 GM corn, the only GM crop authorised by the EU.
Whilst countries such as France, Austria, Greece, Poland or Hungary have banned this crop based on evidence of its environmental impact and unknown risks to health, and the impossibility, as can be seen in areas such as Catalonia and Aragón, of protecting organic and conventional agriculture from contamination by GM pollen. These bans have been ratified a few weeks ago by the Council of Environment Ministers of the EU.
These days Spanish civil society, which for years has opposed this situation, is carrying out a series of simultaneous mobilisations that will culminate in a national demonstration in Zaragoza on Saturday 18th of April. And the signatory organisations would like to show our support to the Spanish resistance against GM crops.
We, the European consumers are conscious that Spain is the only country that permits the cultivation of GM corn, and we bear that in mind when we make our choice of product. Your Government has to consider that continuing to allow these crops seriously damages the image of your agricultural products abroad.
As such, we beg you to halt this situation and for Spain to join the European mainstream in rejecting GM crops, and supporting sustainable, quality agriculture.
