Over the years Moore has made speeches and given a lot of interviews to the media about his support for GM crops, and his arguments in favour of GM are remarkably similar to those advanced by Lynas.

Like Lynas, Moore:

  • accuses environmentalists of pursuing an anti-science agenda over GM. Source
  • accuses environmentalists of pursuing an anti-corporate agenda. Source
  • complains that it has become "very expensive to get new GM varieties approved, due mainly to the onerous amount of red tape involved". Source
  • castigates Greenpeace for its opposition to golden rice, claiming that they have "blocked the introduction of golden rice for over a decade". Source
  • praises soybeans that produce omega-3 fatty acids. Source
  • says GM is a "more precise technology" than conventional breeding. Source
  • says GM food is probably safer. Source
  • points to the issues raised by mutagenesis. Source
  • argues that there are "greater risks" in failing to develop GM crops than in developing them. Source
  • defends intensive agriculture. Source
  • is a fan of Norman Borlaug who he likes to quote. Source
  • claims GM crops reduce pesticide use. Source
  • claims the world's growing population makes GM essential. Source
  • attacks organic farming and says it would require a lot more land to produce the same amount of food. Source
  • says GM crops were smuggled into Brazil by farmers. Source
  • says GM crops were smuggled into India. Source
  • says Vandana Shiva has extraordinary influence in India, including (past) governmental influence. Source
