Final decision for Europe expected June 2016

The European Food Safety Authority’s conclusion on whether glyphosate should receive re-authorisation in Europe is expected to be announced this Thursday.

According to a letter from the Commission seen by GMWatch, the Commission will then present a Review Report and a draft Regulation regarding the possible renewal of the glyphosate authorisation to the Standing Committee for Plants, Animals, Food and Feed, for a vote.

The expiry date for glyphosate has been extended from the initial date of 31 December 2015 to 30 June 2016, together with a number of other substances, to allow the re-evaluation process to be completed.

So we might expect a final decision on glyphosate's renewal in June next year.
